The holidays are over, days are shorter, and it’s getting colder. All we want to do is stay indoors with some hot tea and never get up. However, it’s the new year and we want to start it off right. It’s time to get up and get out of the winter slumps. Here are some ways to get moving and shaking off those winter blues.
Go walking
We know, we know, it’s cold outside. Get out your best scarves and coats and take a brisk walk to get that blood flowing. People who walk 15 minutes a day are known to be more productive throughout the day.
Wake up earlier
By waking up earlier, you’ll feel more awake earlier and make the most of what the day has to offer. Start off slow and wake up 20 minutes earlier and work your way up to an hour or two hours.
Bring warmth to your house
Nothing says warmth like candles! By lighting candles, instantly you feel more calm and warm. Instead of lighting classic winter scents, try summery scent instead. It’ll brighten up the air and make you feel more energized.
Make plans with friends
We know all you want to do is stay inside and watch Netflix documentaries. During the chillier months, it’s hard to want to go out with friends. Instead, make a compromise and invite friends over for movie night.
Make to-do lists
Stay organized this winter by handwriting a to-do list each day. You’ll get more accomplished and you’ll feel great crossing things off the list throughout the day.
Clean your house
Instead of spring cleaning, do some winter cleaning. After the holidays it’s easy to let your home go a bit. Freshen up your home by spiffing up.
Look up events near you
There aren’t just events in the summer, there are local events in the winter too! Get out of the house and join the community this winter. You’ll meet some new friends and take up some fun hobbies. Check out Ellicott City’s winter events here.
Treat yourself
We can easily get in the habit of going to work and coming straight home each day. Instead, go out one day and treat yourself to a nice meal at a restaurant. Get dressed up and have a drink on you.
Plan a weekend vacation
Vacations aren’t just for fun in the sun. Plan a local vacation in the winter too! We recommend spending the weekend in Historic Annapolis! It’s local and there are great activities to do in the winter.
Spend time at home
There is still comfort in spending the wintery days in your home. It’s a chance to reflect and to relax. Just remember to get out a little too.
