Congratulations! You’ve just moved into your Dorsey Home. This is an exciting new start for your family and now that you’re a part of our family we want to make sure your move in day is as stress free as possible. Here are a few tips to make moving easier!
1. Walkthrough
We know you’ve done plenty of walkthroughs and planning. One more won’t hurt! Do a complete walkthrough of your home before you start moving in all of your things. Be sure all appliances and fixtures are working and everything is nice and clean for your furniture placement.
2. Child Proof/ Pet Proof
Safety is number one! As you start unpacking and bringing in furniture we want to make sure the excited kids and pets have a safe space while heavy and potentially dangerous items are being moved. Here are a few measures you can take to proof the moving space:
- Scatter boxes instead of stacking
- Section off a kid safe area
- Set up a kid free/pet free zone to use for discarded packing material and potentially dangerous items
- Cover outlets and proof door knobs
- Keep electrical cords, small appliances and sharp objects away and up high
3. Furniture First
Furniture obviously takes up the most amount of space so save yourself the trouble of trying to figure out what goes where. Once the furniture and large heavy items are in, everything else will fall right into place just as you pictured it. Our floor plans are designed to fit all your needs and also give you space to grow.
4. Set Up
Now that you’ve got your furniture and other items in, it’s time to do another quick walkthrough and make sure all of your utilities are working including: outlets, switches, fixtures, doors and windows. You may have done this already but if not, be sure to verify that your electric, gas, water, heating and cooling, phone and internet are set up as well.
5. Cleaning Session
It’s very helpful to clean as you go but after all that unpacking and unwrapping it’s good to do a nice deep cleaning of your new home. Cleaning can be done at any time but here are a few tips for cleaning after moving:
- Clean high to low
- Clean all floors
- Vacuum wherever you can
- Wipe down surfaces and knobs
- Light a candle/ spray air freshener
This may seem like a lot but the reward is worth the work! Your brand new home is ready for you to make new memories. Welcome Home!
