You bought your new Dorsey home but you still haven’t met your neighbors? We know that it can be a little stressful to meet them; will you make a good first impression? Will they like you? Will you like them? Meeting your new neighbors can feel overwhelming so we’re listing our tips and tricks to break the ice so you don’t have to worry when you bump into them next.
Get involved with your community
Building in Howard County means more than just constructing homes, we are building a community. Howard County is a close community that cares about its residents. Join local organizations to get involved and meet people that live nearby! You might run into some of your close neighbors. Get active in your kid’s school and join the local PTA. Rockburn Elementary School, Centennial High School, and Elkridge Landing Middle School are just a few of the many schools that we build near. It’s a great way to help the community and meet Howard County locals. Check out our Pine Acres Community that is within walking distance to Rockburn Elementary School.
Drop off some goodies
The classic neighborly thing to do is drop off some baked goods. If you aren’t skilled in baking, we recommend picking something up from Touche Touchet in Columbia. In case you aren’t near a bakery, Route 40 has plenty of grocery stores to choose from: Giant, Sprouts Farmers Market, and Aldi! Our Rockburn Estates Community has the benefit of being close to Route 40 and close the charm of Historic Ellicott City.
Offer to do some neighborly deeds
Next time you do some yard work, help out your neighbor by weeding for them. This could be considered a nice gesture and can spark up some conversation. Helping out occasionally is a great way to strengthen your relationship with them. If they go away on vacation, you can offer to water their plants or mow their lawn. By doing good deeds, you can build a great relationship.
Ask to go on a walk
If you run into your neighbor on the weekend, ask to go on a walk around town! A great place to chat and discover great shops and eateries is Historic Ellicott City. Grab some coffee with your neighbor and ask them what their favorite restaurants and shops in the area are. Howard County also has great hiking and walking trails around the Patapsco State Park area. You can make a plan to take a walk with each other every couple of weeks! It’s an easy conversation starter and a great way to get to know more about each other.
