Named National Blue Ribbon School
The U.S. Department of Education announced last week that Ellicott Mills Middle School has been named a 2010 National Blue Ribbon School. Ellicott Mills is one of just five Maryland schools and 304 schools nationally to achieve this honor. The school is one of Howard County’s top performing middle schools with nearly 96 percent of its students scoring at proficient or advanced in reading and nearly 93 percent scoring at proficient or advanced on the latest Maryland School Assessments.
Ellicott Mills has already been honored in several other arenas. The school received the Howard County NAACP’s Certificate of Excellence in Reading, Math, and Attendance as well as the Maryland School Performance Award for Outstanding Achievement. It was also designated a National PTA School of Excellence and received the Howard County Middle School Parent Teacher Collaboration Award. Ellicott Mills was named a Maryland Blue Ribbon School in 2009.
