Patapsco Valley State Park
Perfect for a weekend getaway, this park is a local favorite. They are open from 9am to sunset. It’s a perfect place to bring the family and enjoy the outdoors while it’s still warm.
What to do
- Go Camping!
- If you have an RV or a tent, they have a spot for you! You can choose between theirHiltonorHollofieldcampsites. Take your time and roast marshmallows over the fire and listen to the sounds of nature.
- Walk their trails.
- With a ton of trails to choose from, you’ll never get bored. Just don’t forget to wear bug spray!
- Get your rod and reel and go fishing!
- If you have your fishing license, almost all areas are open to fishing.
- Grab a tube!
- If water levels are high, bring your own tube or paddling equipment. You’ll have hours of fun in the water!
Baltimore and Ohio Station Museum
Located in the heart ofOld Ellicott City, this is a great trip for the entire family. Explore and learn more about the oldest railway station in America. Did we mention the admission is free?

- Visit the Freight House diorama and learn about the history of the museum and Ellicott City. You’ll also see a great display of a mini railroad track and town.
- Bring the kids outside and show them a real train caboose! They’ll be able to explore the inside.
- Explore the lives of the people who worked and lived in the train station. You’ll be taken through the room they lived in and learn about their daily routines.
Guinness Open Gate Brewery
This new attraction located in Halethorpe is a great way to spend a Saturday night. You’ll be in awe of how big it is inside!

- Book a Tour!
- Learn the background of Guinness, get an inside look of the brewery, and taste one of the best beers in the world!
- Dine in at the 1817 Restaurant
- With an Irish twist on modern favorites, there is something for everyone here.
- Have a beer
- Grab a beer at one of the two experimental taprooms in the world. Try a variety of styles and flavors and you can even take some home with you in a growler.
Howard County Fair
It’s not the summer without a local fair! Celebrate the 74th Howard County Fair with your family on August 3rd-10th!
What to do
- Listen to entertainment
- Dance to a line up of country or rock and roll bands. It’s a nice way to kick up some dirt and have some fun!
- Join a contest
- From pie-eating to beer brewing, there are a ton of contests that anybody can enter.
